Control

The person trying to control you is the one actually out of control. Abusers are deeply insecure; they must be in control of people and situations. When the abusers feel that they are losing control, they act out.

  • A push for a quick relationship
  • Jealous and possessive
  • Tries to control your life
  • Unrealistic expectations
  • Isolates you from friends and family
  • Blames others for his/her problems and mistakes
  • Makes everyone else responsible for his/her feelings
  • Says his/her feelings are easily hurt
  • Cruel to animals and children
  • “Playful” use of force during sex
  • Yells and calls you names
  • Rigid sex roles
  • Sudden mood swings
  • History of battery
  • Threats of violence
  • Threatens to reveal personal or damaging information about you or your family or employer
