Those that are in domestic violence relations have learned to hide their fears and the fact that they are being abused at home. Although they are the ones that are being abused, they are ashamed. And since abuse is a slow method of hurt, harsh words, manipulation, the abused is almost conditioned to accept the changes within their own home. The abuser does this in a gradual calculated way. Many abused people do not even realize it is happening until someone points it out or they begin to reflect on what it used to be and what it is like now.
