Part 4: Managing Social Media and Staying Aware
Take time to “cleanse” your social media presence and strengthen your privacy. Set all accounts to the highest privacy settings
- Block the abuser—and anyone who may share information with them
Adjust settings to:
- Prevent tagging in locations or photos
- Be cautious when accepting new friend requests (they could be fake accounts)
Even though nothing is ever truly erased from the internet, you can still take meaningful steps to limit access to your information.
Additional tips:
- Trust your instincts
- Be mindful of what you post
- Set clear boundaries with friends and family about what they share publicly
Above all - prioritize your safety. Follow your personal safety plan as you work to leave an abusive situation.
You are not alone. Organizations like Reach Out Speak Out, along with many others, are available to support you.
