Part 3: Locking Down Your Devices

Once your accounts are secure, it’s time to protect your devices. This step may involve some inconvenience—but it is essential.

Take the following actions:

  • Remove yourself from family plans and shared accounts
  • Disconnect from shared:
  • Photo streams
  • Calendars
  • Data services
  • Disable GPS and location sharing
  • Review app privacy settings and turn off tracking
  • Ensure map apps are not sharing your location
  • Turn off Bluetooth when not in use

Check your apps carefully:

  • Remove any apps you don’t recognize or use
  • Look for unusual spikes in data or battery usage, which may signal spyware

Check for physical tracking:

  • Inspect your vehicle:
    • Under the car
    • Inside the glove compartment
    • Under seats

Important: If you find a tracking device, use caution. Removing it may alert or provoke the abuser. Make sure you have a safety plan in place first.
